The 163k number includes the advance degree number. So it is 132K for general and 31k for advance

Actually, IMO, stocks is a loosers game. Many have tried it and have lost a "lot" of money(including myself). If you would like to make money through investments(i didn't say *stocks*), you should go with something like mutual funds and have a well diversified portfolio across different asset classes.
If you really want to get yourself into stock market investing, the best book(Holy Grail for people like Warren Buffet and many other Mutual Fund managers) to get started on is is The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham. There are tons of discussion forums like morningstar.com that has discussions about finance related topics. You could also get started with Mutual Funds for Dummies, Common Sense book on Investing by John Bogle, The Intelligent Asset Allocator by Bill Bernstein etc., There are tons of other ones, but this would get you started.
But, my 2 cents, have a long term goal, educate yourself on what investing(again, I didn't say stocks) is and get started. Investing is a marathon not a sprint.

However, don't you think that considering there are a lot of stocks that are at bargain prices (due to the downturn in the economy and not necessarily due to the company's performance), this would be the right time to buy and hold and build up the portfolio. As Buffet himself said "Be fearful when others are greedy, and be greedy when others are fearful."

Is this her first time into US? if so, i guess they are trying to make sure your h1b is still valid. Since they see that you entered on AP, it might be confusing them. I am assuming you work for the same h1 employer who also sponsored your GC. Now all attorneys have told us that the law says you can resume your h1b once you are back on AP but lot of IO's don't care about it. Now you can just send an employer/personal letter stating that you are currently in the same job for which your H1 is approved and also have a I140 pending/approved for the same. Mention that you are still on H1b while you entered using your AP. Hence you never got your H1b visa stamped at the consulate. It shouldn't be a problem unless you are trying to get H$4 via a H1b from a former employer while you are working on EAD for someone else.

I am curious to know if people are sending amounts >20K by wire transfer to India or other countries from the US. People who do that regularly or have done that in past, have you encountered any problems? Wire transfers are directly informed by the bank to the IRS and you do not have to do it personally right?

The new employer does need to support you thru the GC process, again unclear if this is something that is needed in the AC21 letter or not.
The main thing per my understanding is that AC21 does not apply to contract positions - one would hope that the previous employer does not revoke the I-140 petition causing a NOID/RFE.
My question still stands - if the sponsoring employer revokes the approved I-140 petition post 180 days of 485 filing - this would cause problems if the person has taken up a contract position on EAD unless one can respond to the NOID/RFE stating a full time offer in hand for future employment, etc.

I am currently working for an employer A full time on H-1 B. I-140 Approved (> 180days) and 485 pending (July 2nd filer). I have my EAD. My H-1 is being extended and I have not received my approval notice yet.

My situation was same. Upon getting denial notice me and my employer talked to Murthy and on there suggestion we filed a fresh extension petition with all documents. We filed under premium processing and I got approved H1B with I-94 in 10 days.
I suggest you to consult with a highly recognized immigration lawyer and based on your denial reasons act accordingly.
You can also appeal against denial, but then you can't work and there is no premium processing in appeal. You might have to wait for many a days.
Consulting with a lawyer will help you my friend. Good luck.

President's approval is needed on every little provision as he can veto the bill after all the has been work done by the Congess. So the approval of executive branch is always required for any bill/provision. So President and the executive branch has a a lot of say in decising which provisions go into the bill, more than the most powerful Senators and Congressmen. Arizon Governor is a big proponent of immigration reform and that's why her assignment to this job is significant, as she may also act as an interface between the WH and the Congress to push for an immigration reform. The point is, she is a friend of a reform bill, and she wants it done now.
