I think you have made a great decision asdcrajnet. Best wishes for all your future endeavours (note the "u" in the spelling :-))
I will be following you pretty soon. I should be there by December 2011! I would like to provide a small piece of advice to others who are contemplating moving back but haven't made the decision yet.
Before that, a little bit about my story- I came to the US in April 2005 with the intention of living here for five years and then returning back for good. I told my brother about my intentions, which for some reason made him laugh. He said 90% of the people intend to "move back in five years" but never actually do. You have kids here and then they grow up and start going to school. Then you feel your kids will not adjust to schooling in India, and you end up living here. I didn't care so much about his comments until two years later. My brother again asked me - so when are you moving back? I said - in another five years. Holy S***!!! I never realized when my five year plan became a seven year plan!!!
So now coming to my word of advice - set a hard date and work towards that date! Don't just say "in a couple of years"! In December 2006 I set my return date to April 2012 and started working towards it. I started thinking seriously about what I wanted to do in India, what I needed to do here now to improve my chances of succeeding in India, etc. I asked my wife to answer the same questions about her career in India (by the way, it's our joint decision to move back!). I will be starting my own business when I move back. I have already identified partners, made some connections in Mumbai and have started talking to potential customers. I will be making a brief visit to Mumbai later in March, and am planning to move back for good by December 2011.
So if you are serious about moving, set a hard date and work towards it. Otherwise, five year plans become seven, ten, fifteen year plans and you end up living here for good (nothing wrong with that by the way, if that's your intention)!

There is a 99% chance of a TV crew covering this event. I just spoke with them and they are just working out the logistics. They will reach the USCIS office at around 12 PM and said that it would be great if some of us are available around that time to talk to them.
Any D.C. area people interested in going there, please send me a private message with your name and phone number so that we can talk and work out the logistics.
WOW! great effort buddy:)

Yes, registering with the Police department of the city is a must. All they need (at least in San Jose) is your name, driver's license number etc. They will register it.
You dont need permit for walking on sidewalks. You need permit only if you plan to stop traffic and block streets. None of us want to do that.
Check with your city's police department and find out how to register for march on sidewalks without stopping traffic. I guess that's a lot easier than getting permits to stop traffic etc.
Now, as to rallies other than San Jose rally, if you plan to lead the rally and get the event registered, then please email me at jay@Immigrationvoice.org and I will help you get members. I have list of all members and their states and once you finalize the event, I will email the entire list and point them to you. I will also provide you with material, guidance and Immigration voice's message and talking points should you be approached by a reporter. In fact, its a good idea to tell local papers in your area before hand so that the know to cover the event.
Members in NYC, Washington DC, Chicago, LA etc should have absolutely no problems in finding enough members planning to walk on the street for an hour. I will help you find enough participants in your city, if you send me an email and if you are ready to lead these events.

It already does, if you have an approved I-140 based on your LC.
with LC sitting in BEC for 5 years or more it does not. There are many many people I know whose PD could not be recaptured because of the insane amount of time LC certifications used to take. With PERM its a 5 month + 15 day (if I-140 PP is restored) thing; in my time (gosh I feel like an oldtimer now) it was a 4-5 YEAR wait for LC, then another year for I-140 (as there was no PP). And in 2001-2003 not all companies that sponsored LCs survived to see what came out of that process, and the sponsored employees were left with nothing.

Quick question for thosewho have already recieved their receipt notice????
What does the priority date column say on your receipt notices? I mean does it show the actual priority date or is blank????
I am happy to announce that I have received the EAD cards today (just like rc0878 had suggested). I should not have doubted the encouragement and estimation of the experience here.
So, I received the EAD cards dated Sept 18th, expiry is one year from the issue date i.e. Sept 17th, 2008 (unlike someone else's cards which were valid for only 3 months).
Let me know if someone wants to ask any other information.
thanks again. :D

For your Information India's GDP is 3 trillion USD compare to Mexico 1 trillion USD. Taking into account GDP of EU India ranks 5th in GDP higher than any indivisual European nation where as Mexico ranks 13th. This is as per CIA worldfactbook. So where did you get the number
"Mexico's GDP is essentially equal to India's (India = 775,410, Mexico=768,437). "
Hmmn did I forget you are an MBA from Mexico ?
(What would happen if India shared a land border with the U.S.A. - One can only imagine! Instead of 7 million illegal Mexicans, we would have 400 million illegal Indians here!)
Lets get this thing straight buddy without shadow of any doubt there are more Mexican than Indian in USA. But what about the number of doctors, computer scientist, economist, professors of reputable Universities, physcisist of Indian origin compare to Mexican origin.
I will ignore your familiarity in calling me your "buddy". Find something constructive to say in regards to our IV goals instead of attacking. To begin with, this is not the place for me to explain to you the details of difference between Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) GDP (that you quote) and the market exchange rate GDP which I quoted. But since you raised the subject, PPP GDP is adjusted to accomodate for different inflation and consumption rates in different countries. Without the PPT adjustment, India's GDP is equal to Mexico's, even though India has 11 times the population of Mexico. The reason India comes in 4th with the PPP adjustment in the world is because the ruppee is undervalued and Indians have a purchasing power that is 4 times smaller than Mexicans. So, to humor you and use your method of calculation, the Per Capita GDP (PPP) Of India is $3,344 in 2006 and Mexico's is $12,886. "Where are all the Mexican doctores, computer scientists, economists and professors?" you ask. The answer is: They are IN MEXICO making huge salaries, when the Indian ones have to come here because their salaries in India don't give them enough money to eat. Why aren't all the construction workers and lawn workers in the U.S. Indian? Because they cannot affor the airfare. The Mexicans just walk accross the border. Any you know what? All those Indian Professors at Harvard etc are teaching class to all those rich Mexican kids. Get your facts straight before you confront me and make fun of my MBA (which I got in the U.S. incidentally, not Mexico, but if I had wanted I could have gotten a top 20 MBA back home). I just recated to people's racist attacks here. So now, if you have anything to contribute to our IV common cause, welcome! If all you are about is attacking other forum members then please leave and do not come back. Thanks.

1,747 Letters and Emails Sent So Far
:(
Leo,
Just so that we are clear, please note that signing online petitions doesn't mean anything if there is no matching advocacy. Timing of the activity is also very important. In the end, advocacy and grassroots effort must compliment each other at the same time. The website you are referring is an advertisement website. Its not a resource for serious advocacy effort.
The Congress is right now focused on DREAM Act. If we just say "Erase Green card backlog", it will mean nothing. But there is a chance if we send specific targeted message asking to include specific provisions in the bill that appear to be moving (i.e. DREAM Act in this case), and IV is complimenting this message with the advocacy on the ground.
Just sending random email from some online advertisement for profit website does not mean anything. We think that some of these websites are just collecting your Email and Home Address, which they could sell for making profit.
Immigration Voice would like to request its all members not to send out random messages from advertisement websites because such messages are out of sink with reality. Please participate in the well defined and targeted 'Action Items' on IV.

It's very frustrating.. TSC is sitting on our application or what? Approx 30K applications are there for July 2nd filer including NSC->TSC transfer(per old NYT report). We see reporting of 1 or 2 receipting a day then few quite days.
It will approx 60 days since filing and still waiting for check encash/Receipt. What a heck..
I have only seen just one or two cases so far with receipts I mean filed on Jul 2. I myself am a Jul 2 filer NSC filer with TSC approved 140 and haven't gotten anything yet....I also had the LUd on 7/28/07.

The problem with him and many others including me is people like the OP, and in case you are also one of them, then we all have a problem with people like YOU!!!!!
He never claimed his wife was better than the OP. All he is saying is that his wife HAD a job, which is the minimum requirement to apply for an H-1B. He never said that converting from H4 to H1 is illegal!
Your coment that everyone is trying to improve their life is so simplistic and moronic. No one is denying you or the OP theright to improve one's life. Do so ethically!
How can you simply assume that everyone here came to the US through some bodyshopping company? How did you get your job? Was it through a consulting/bodyshopping company?
And no, he is not dividing the community. You and people like you think that every immigrant is unethical and it is an accepted behavior!
Shame on you!!!
What’s your problem man? You are mad because your wife did not get H1B/Job? What do you say to a American citizen who is saying that you took his job? It’s all part of the game. Everyone is trying to improve their life.
How can you tell your wife is better? Your wife is doing exactly the same, converting from H4 to H1B. Did she have job offer when she came to USA? You must have come through some consulting company, what kind of offer letter you had when you came to US?
Everyone is playing by the rules, otherwise we would not have been here. dont think you are the only one playing by the rules.
How can you tell he/she is representation false?
People like you are the ones who are dividing the community.
