Like many many people have said before - the GC is not the end of the road. it is just a milestone. Life goes on, irrespective.
Try playing this game:
1. What if my GC is delayed by 10 yrs?
2. What if it is denied?
3. What if I have to go back to my home country?
What if, what if, what if....You will find that it is really not as bad as you think it is. The alternative solution may be much better, and make you much happier.
We have been here since 2001, had 4 GC processes started between me and my husband. The one with a PD of Dec 2005 (under Eb3!!) is the one we have used to get our EAD's. Yeah, its a long, long wait - but has that stopped us in any way?
1. My husband has a very good job and likes what he is doing- although he would like to cut down his travel.
2. I have a v.good and v.well paying job
3. We have 2 beautiful daughters - who are both American citizens by birth.
4. We have a beautiful home ( we bought a house 3yrs ago, irrespective of the fact that we were on a H1B)
5. We have fairly good savings, good US education, diverse & valuable work experience
6. A Canadian PR as a back-up
What I am trying to say is this - you cannot control USCIS/ DOL/ the FBI...but you can take charge of your destiny. Build a strong foundation for yourself and your family. Have a good back-up plan (or two!). Participate in activities that interest you. make a difference in others lives - educate a few children. Take care of an elderly person. Leave a legacy behind.
And have a good life! Stop worrying! Happiness will follow.

Eveyone says that. Nobody actually goes back.
I know quite a few people who have gone back in the last year ;), and contrary to perception are quite happy with the choice they made.

It sounds like IV should assign PD to people who join and accordingly allow them to comment.......just like USCIS allot GC based on PD.....:)
Why not if 'Who did not even know about IV till Apr 2007 are CONTRIBUTING here'.

I've been coping with GC related stress by meditating as much as I can. Meditation releases endorphines which helps you calm down and have a clutter free mind. I know it is easier said than done, but it works. I also take meditative walks on weekends. We have trails near our house which take me to deep wooded area away from traffic and everything. I walk about 4-5 miles on weekends. Lately not walking due to cold. I also listen to Deepak Chopra, Joel Osteen, Wayne Dyer on Youtube. Hope this helps.

Hi,
There are several restrictions/constraints for many ppl for not being able to devote time/money for the general cause. Let's not fret about the reasons. While it would help for all ppl to join forces that should not distract the group that is doing something about the issues.
And ppl on the sidelines - pls don't be a passive professional critique. However valuable your comments and ideas are they are useless without acting upon it - they are just like seeds sown in a barren land. The good work of the forum will continue without your presence. With your involvement we all can reach the goal that much more faster.
My Labor certification is actually filed in the state of IL. But i am on an assignment in MD till Sep 2010 (after filing for relevant amendments).
It's ~5 hrs drive for me to Baltimore/Washington-DC. So, coming every week for a meeting is not practical. I am extremely eager to support OUR cause given the commuting constraints. I have already written to our congress man here to bring to his notice the struggles of wannabee immigrants.
So, where do i sign up?

Ditto - been here since 1998... Finally when one does get a GC, it's not really a high point of life - just another pending task accomplished so one can move on.
One of those things - having it will not make a HUGE difference to life, but not having it does have its consequences. Funny how this works... :)

I have been in US since 1998 as well and I have a EB2 PD of Nov 2006. I keep myself healthy and happy. To me if there is no work here there will be work somewhere else and if there is no growth this country there will be growth somewhere else. Cheer up buddy :-)

I got some good news. I called uscis just now and got two receipt numbers, one for 485 and one for EAD. Checks not cashed yet. I don't have the receipt number for AP yet. So it seems that our box is not lost and they're processing them, though so slowly. My application arrived on 7/3 at NSC, received by R. William at 9:03am.
Hope every one of us will receive our receipts, EAD and AP asap.

Whatever bluesky1 said is true...finally they opened our box. Today I called and rep gave me only I-485 receipt number and told me to wait for mail. USCIS likes everyone to wait for every thing......I have no more information but as soon as I get mail I will post all the info.
3rd july people should call now and I am definite we all were sitting in same box.
What a painful 100 days it was..................hopefully everything is correct on receipt...wait again and see.....

Was your I-140 approved also at NSC? Maybe that's the reason why you have an NSC receipt. My I-140 was approved from TSC.....

In addition to completing the action item, set up an appointment with my Congressman for the week after next to push for this provision.
As stated by the more experienced folks involved with this initiative, the bottomline is that any action item should be accompanied by a grass roots effort where all our members should meet with the local congressmen/congresswoman to push for our provisions (in this case visa recapture). Coordinated action items and phone campaigns always help but we should not wait for an action item to talk to the lawmaker offices in our local districts.

H1B is a non immigrant visa, and they dont have the full constitutional rights, for eq they dont have the right to vote.
Legally we are not immigrants, that is the worst mistake( calling ourselves immigrants) ,being done by us,
If USCIS denies GC for security reasons, you cant sue them.
No onde denies that we cannot vote. But we have the basic rights, like being treated "equally and fairly". For example, if some employer violates labor law and did not pay you for your work, I am sure you can sue, even though you are not a citizen. There are some basic rights that everyone has, esp. if you hold good fainth and are damaged. Statement that you do not have any rights as you are not a citizen is just wrong. I am wondering how this will impact people's (esp. people from other countries) perception about this. :confused:
